Meet me in St. Louis, Louis, Meet me at the GAME!

Monday B told me he’d be home late because he had to get through his work so he could go to game 7 of the World Series in St. Louis.  I was one hot momma wanting to go with him and see my family.  My Auntie Barb (mom’s sister) and Uncle Jay live there and I hadn’t seen them since my wedding.  He goes to bed and tells me he doubts he’ll go.  So Tuesday I get back in the car after taking Ben to school and see a text from Billy that said to call my family because we’re going to St. Louis THAT NIGHT!  I was so excited.  My fabulous aunt and uncle put their plans aside and let us come see them.  We had the BEST time (minus the baseball games of course).  They totally spoiled both boys and the boys warmed right up to them.  On his own Ben called them “grandma” and “grandpa.”  Their grandkids call them “Cici” and “Papa” and he ended up interchanging those names.  I was also completely spoiled having so much help.  Instead of having Ben sleep on the floor we put him in bed with us.  Briggs had some sleeping issues and spent half the time in bed with us,too.  It was cozy to say the least (yet their king size bed seemed so much bigger than ours).  The weather was cold, the leaves were colorful and the family was wonderful!

Highlights of our mini, impromptu vacation!

October 30 167

We drove all night and got there for breakfast.  The boys were amazing.  My aunt had a great breakfast waiting for us and Uncle Jay snapped Briggs up immediately.

October 30 010

Briggs took many naps on the floor (why won’t he do that at home?)

October 30 011

My cousin Jon dropped off one of Nate’s racetracks for Ben to play with.  He even played with Emily’s dollhouse.

October 30 012

Uncle Jay has always played the harmonica and he taught Ben how to play.  Ben carried his “monica” in his pocket the entire time.

October 30 016

The boys warmed up to the dogs very quickly.  Before we left Ben was giving Katie hugs and kisses.  She even let Briggs play and tug at her.

October 30 026

Briggs helped Auntie Barb make dinner.  She gave him plastic spoons to play with and he had a blast!

October 30 032

They have an amazing yard.  I remember running around it when I was little catching fireflies.  It was cool outside, but great weather to run around in and it was neat to watch Ben run around the same yard.  Cody is the coolest dog.  He’s like a little person.  Ben enjoyed chasing Cody fetch the tennis ball.  B wants a dog now just like Cody and is currently on the comjputer looking up dogs.  Don’t get me started on that…

October 30 009

The first thing my Aunt and I did after eating breakfast when we arrived was take the boys to the most fabulous playground I have ever seen.  It was built to be accessible for kids with disabilities, but it was so much fun and Ben loved it.  I didn’t worry about him falling off of things and he played and played.  It even started to sprinkle and we let him keep running.

October 30 004

This is how Briggs enjoyed the park.

October 30 046

Uncle Jay got the boys disturbing St. Louis Cardinals’ hats to wear.  He got Ben to shout, “Go Cards” over and over while B worked on “Go Rangers” and I worked on “Go Cubs.”  It was fun to see what he’d shout.

October 30 047

I got to see my cousins!  Ashley, Julie and Bill came over brought Ben matchbox cars to play with.  I even got to see Nicole the newlywed!

October 30 052

Getting some Julie love

October 30 195

Ashley and Nichole (my 2nd cousins) finally got to meet the boys.

October 30 048

Uncle Jay and Briggs spent tons of time together.  Notice Cody.  He has the life!

October 30 058

Ben loved Gracie the bird.  She lives in the sunroom when not on Jay’s shoulder.  Ben would go over and talk to her.  They keep the tv on for her sometimes and when he figured out he could watch it he started to watch cartoons with Gracie.  He now loves Spongebob and doesn’t understand why mommy won’t let him watch it at home.

October 30 073

Wagon rides!  First Uncle Jay found this old wooden wagon in the basement and gave it to Ben (even though I explained we already have one).  Now each boy has one.  Then he hooked it up to the lawn mower and took Ben on rides. We spent lots of time in the basement as well playing baseball with Ben.

October 30 090

Ben would walk over to “Papa” and tell him what he wanted to do and Uncle Jay would jump up and do it.  Here they’re going on golf cart rides.  Riding home from dinner one night Ben said he wanted to go on the boat (which as already been winterized).  As we are telling him it’s too cold, Uncle Jay pipes in and says he’ll get the fluid needed tomorrow and we can go on it.  Umm, I don’t think so!  I’m telling you, Ben wraps everyone around his fingers!

October 30 084

Trying it out himself.

October 30 183

We so wanted these geese to turn on Ben, heehee!

October 30 103

Auntie Barb showed me tons of OLD family photos, many over 100 years old.  This is my grandparents’ marriage certificate from 1935!  The pictures were so neat to see.  Grammy Boo was beautiful when she was young.  Such valued treasures.

The plan was that if game 6 was played without a delay I would get to go, but if it was delayed and/or there was a game 7, Jonathan was driving up and going with B.  I was SO excited to go to game 6 and crushed when it was delayed.  Jonathan drove up Thursday about an hour before the game and I tried and tried to get B to get me a ticket until the very last minute.  Pretty sure Jonathan wanted to strangle me he was so annoyed, but I was not going to give up.  I’m already thinking of all the things I’m getting/doing to make up for my loss!

October 30 040

Jay smoked ribs for the boys before the game.

The boys before the heart attack inducing game 6.  Those smiles were not there when they got home.

October 30 053

The boys tried to stay up and look for Daddy.

October 30 078

So while we were at White Castle eating lunch on Friday (hands down the WORST place ever) the guys were trying to decide what to do about their tickets for game 7.  After they decided to go we went to Walmart so B could get something warm to wear under his clothes.  Give him some tiem and his mind will come up with some crazy ideas.  This is what a wig, blue spray paint, red fabric, big glasses and blue windpants will result in (I sewed the T onto his sweatshirt).  Since Cardinal colors are red, he wanted to make sure he was blue.  Jonathan left early yesterday morning.  I can’t believe he made the LONG drive alone.  Ashlee is a very nice wife because I’m not sure I could let B do that alone.

October 30 083

He thinks he’s so cool.  Sadly someone stole his wig on their way out.  Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm for the Rangers.  Or better yet, maybe the Cubs will win next year instead!

October 30 114

I was SO sad to leave yesterday morning.  Ben even cried.  Thank you Aunt Barb and Uncle Jay for an incredible few days.  I’ll definitely have to come up with Grams and the boys this summer.

7 Months

October 30 117

Yesterday our sweet baby turned 7 months.  He got to celebrate by being constipated and teething while driving 9 hours.  Happy birthday sweetheart!

Briggs is still our “good baby” as I call him.  It’s the same every month.  He’s so sweet and good and a lousy  sleeper.

He’s trying so hard to get to a crawling position.  I’m hopeful he’ll be there by 8 months.  Ben didn’t crawl until right before 9 months so he can take his time.

Mommy=Briggs’ BFF!  This kid loves me!  At least I’m #1 to someone Smile

He still loves his swing.  He might have passed the weight limit, but buckled in he’s okay so we’ll keep it out for a little longer at least.

His tongue!  We should have named him Michael Jordan because he’s a little MJ with that tongue out all.the.time!

Loves all food!  He is nursing every 3-4 hours and eating baby food a few times a day.  We just moved up to stage 2 foods.  Ben even gave him a cheerio the other day (daddy was on duty).

ADORES his big brother.  Loves to touch him and watch him.  And thanks to Ben, Briggs enjoys some Mickey Mouse occasionally!

His two teefers are getting bigger and I think the top ones are trying to work their way down.  He’s been super fussy the past two days and is chomping as hard as he can on his pacifier.

He finally mastered sitting up unsupported.  He can’t stay like it forever, but he’s good for a good while.

I am just amazed at his calm and easy going personality.  He really only fusses if he’s tired or it’s overdue to eat (or lately if his teeth are hurting).  I think I tell him all day how perfect he is and how much I love him.  He is the BEST baby (during the daytime at least).  I am still in disbelief that God gave us this sweet angel!

Happy Anniversary

October 13 is an important day for our family.  It’s both Grams and Pops’ anniversary and B’s grandparents' anniversary.  If both those couples hadn’t gotten married, neither one of us would be here today Smile  While Grams and Pops celebrated their 32nd anniversary, Grandma and Grandpa Conroy celebrated their 55th!  Amazing!  To help them celebrate we had a family celebration at B’s Aunt and Uncle’s A.MAZ.ING house.  More like a resort.  We drove down to Austin on Friday for the occasion.  After a stop for lunch in Waco, Ben finally fell asleep.

October 18 127

just makes me laugh

We hadn’t been to Nick and Sheri’s since they added their addition to their already stunning house.  I think for my next vacation I’ll just go stay in their guest house.  It was the perfect place for a fun night!  Ben loved playing with Nicholas and did such a good job being careful of the pool.  Sweet Briggs even had such a good time that he didn’t fall asleep at all while we were there (we left at 10).  Gramma brought juice boxes for Ben and the little squirt drank 4!!!  We never give him juice.  Pretty sure he was on a sugar high.  I tried to take some pictures of the party when I wasn’t holding Briggs or chasing Ben.

We love Aunt Tina

Sunday morning we left Ben behind and headed home.  I thought he could use a couple days of being the center of attention.  Two nights was the most I could handle.  Thankfully Tina sent me pictures when she could.  Ben had SO MUCH FUN with Tina, Boots and Gramma.  He was spoiled rotten.  He ate probably 1,000 donuts (and has the poop to prove it).  He was super well behaved and respectful.  I missed him like crazy though!

Helping Boots fertilize

October 18 143

He got to walk to the fire station with them, eat ice cream, watch football, wrestle, read books, help Gramma with her makeup, let balloons up in the sky and eat tons of pizza!  Gramma took him to Toys R Us because he doesn’t have enough toys (ha).  He picked out a million toys and then told her to put them all back when he saw the Home Depot tool collection.  He came home with the tool box and power tools.  The rest will probably arrive via Boots and Gramma at Christmas.

We met halfway today to pick him up.  Briggs (who has popped not one, but two teeth) missed Ben too because he’s been a little fussy lately (and very clingy).  I drank three large drinks at lunch which made for a very uncomfortable ride home.  Our favorite 2 year old got french fries when Mommy had to stop to potty just 20 minutes after leaving Gramma.

October 18 149

Showing Briggs his tool box and what each tool does.  He likes to “fix” things!  Like father (and grandfather) - like son!

We are so thankful we have so many people who love our boys so much.  Thanks Boots, Gramma and Aunt Tina (Brad, too) for taking such good care of my favorite blonde boy!

Two Doctor Visits and the Zoo

1.  I received another nomination for Mom of the Year!  So remember when I thought Ben might have an ear infection because black gunk was coming out, well it turns out he did.  Only I had to be TOLD to take him in by Ashley.  What I thought was just wax was really ooze.  No wonder he was a total stinker that week, poor kid was sick and for almost 2 weeks before I got him relief!  At least Ben has Ashley to look out for him.

2.  Good Baby had his 6 month check up on Tuesday and was…wait for it…GOOD!  He didn’t even cry after the first shot, just grunted (he did get upset with shots 2 and 3).  He is doing great.  I think he’s just huge, but he’s still so much smaller than Ben was at the same age.  I was told to put him to bed and leave him for 8 hours.  We tried that the first night in his pack n’ play in the room next to ours where he’s been sleeping, but his cries were too much being so close so now he sleeps in his crib.  Yes it took 6 months, but he made it!  Briggs has always taken his time in doing things so I was worried that he’s not sitting unassisted yet.  Sure enough when we come home from the doctor I start trying it and he did it.  Wasn’t long before he toppled.  I gave him a sippy cup with water today and he drooled it out.  I don’t think he knows what to do with water.

Stats (with Ben’s 6 mo to compare):

weight:  17.13 lbs  (20.1)

height: 26.75 in (27.3)

head: 17.5 (18.5)

I took this picture of Briggs and then as I was looking back realized I took a very similar one of Ben at his 6 month appt.

Ben 6 moBriggs 6 mo

Sometimes I think they look so much alike and then sometimes (like in these pictures) they don’t look anything alike.

3.  On Wednesday we joined some friends from Ben’s playgroup at the Dallas Zoo.  I was kind of nervous having both boys alone without B, but Briggs was great so it wasn’t bad at all.  Our fearless kid has turned into a huge wimp and even told me before we left that he didn’t want to go because he was “scared.”  He even freaked out on the carousel and we had to sit on the BENCH instead of the fun animals.  He wanted off, but I spent $2 so he was going to ride, darn it!

October 5 029

No, your eyes aren’t fooling you.  That is Ben touching a goat.  After this he refused, but we had a little success at the children’s area.

October 5 042

He loved these fish and liked watching them eat.

This picture is so cute!

October 5 073

For $5 you can get a measly 3 pieces of lettuce and feed the giraffes (I’m sure it’s organically grown and has tons of extra vitamins).I thought Ben would really like it.  NOPE!  NOT AT ALL!!!  I gave him a piece of lettuce and told him to try and he threw it on the ground.  This was after we spent time watching our friends try it.  He was digging his hands into my back.

October 5 078

October 5 079

This was at the end of the day before we left.  Everyone (mommies included) was pooped!  Speaking of poop I had to change 4 diapers at the zoo.  That is a zoo itself!  Can they not do their business at the same time???  But we had so much fun we’re going back in November!
